In Need of Health Advice

The short version is: I'm doing much better emotionally, but I still have a lot of stressers in my life. I'm still in the same despised living situation, I don't get out much due to limited and expensive means of travel, my financial situation is very undesirable, and now I'm beginning a battle with Voc Rehab for funding for something that I'll talk about later.

Despite all this, my spirits have been lifted quite a bit. Problem is, my physical well-being hasn't caught up. I haven't been in the best of health since around September of last year, but lately it's gotten really frustrating. I mean, if it's not one thing, it's another! If it's not a headache, it's nausea. If it's not nausea, it's my acid reflux acting up. If it's not that, it's my sciatic nerve giving me hell. On top of all that, I think my blood sugar might be crashing again too.

I can deal pretty well with the acid reflux, and while I'd really like to get this blood sugar thing straightened out for good, I can remedy it for a time with a glass of juice. But one thing that presents a problem is that lately I can't do ten minutes of housework without my sciatic nerve giving me pain. But what really puts me out of commission are the headaches and the nausea. I pretty much brought it on myself, because when I was really stressed I basically lost the motivation to take the initiative to eat proprely and was living on one semi-healthy and one junk food meal a day, along with caffeine. Now, I'm trying to make myself eat three balanced meals a day, but I have a hard time getting an appetite, and when I do get one and eat, I get nauseated afterword. A perfect example was yesterday, when I got up at around 8, didn't eat until almost 3, and upon finishing the pasta (which I'm actually eating some more of now), was sick to my stomach.

I've got a lot I would like to get done before the beginning of next year, but I can't do much like this. I know there are a lot of herbal remedies that would help, but some of them are probably too expensive for my very limited budget. So I guess what I need is some ideas for inexpensive ways to get healthy again. If anyone has any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Namaste,
Becky

It's been my experience, and from what I've noticed about others, that when things aren't going well, the stomach takes the hardest hit. So I'd suggest trying to balance out your diet, little by little, by eating things that aren't so hard on your stomach at first. Things like pasta are a lot harder to digest, and would probably make you feel nauseous if it's not used to digesting it on a regular basis. so maybe eat some fruits, or bread, but most importantly, drink a lot of water. I was never a fan of drinking water myself, but it makes you feel so good, and seems to get rid of a lot of problems, including headaches. Also, try to go for a walk, even if it's just around the block, it'll make you feel a lot better. Anyway, hope this helps.

In my experience, emotional wellbeing is a big part of stomach problems, if you can find ways to improve your emotional levels you may find the stomach reacts favourably. I know from experience that it's not always that simple, so eat small and often if possible and that again should help ease any major stomach reactions.

Also, in the herbal department, try a good probiotic like the Multi Probiotic from Original Medicine. There's a place online that sells it for $35 a bottle, and there's 120 pills. For starters, take 3 a day. Some people can take them about 30 minutes before meals, and I tried that, but they are more effective for me if I take them all at the same time, first thing in the morning. Different people's systems work differently, but definitely get on a good probiotic.

One thing that helps stomach acid is eating apples. Something in them absorbs much of the acid. I agree with post 2, in that any dietary changes should take place slowly. You have a better chance of making them stick, and making them more of a lifestyle change. Walking is great exercise. That will help both your mind and body to function better. Start with a short walk, and gradually, make it longer. Good luck.

Beckie, if you're having trouble digesting large quantities of food at once, try snacking frequently. carrots and dip, fruit, or even blended fruit smoothies with protein can give you a lot of energy. are you able to do any exercise? exercises such as pilates and yoga have been known to help with the releasing of tention from virtually all muscle groups.
I hope you feel better soon though; it's frustrating when your body isn't catching up to your mind.

Taking out the fats can help too. Try just eating fresh fruit and veggies and lean meat like chicken, lean beef and fish. Eat lots of protein like beans and nuts. Try to steer clear of the burgers and fries for awhile and see what happens. Believe it or not, caffein or even caffein withdrawl can cause some nasty headaches, so try to slowly rid yourself of it if you think that's the cause. Get lots of sleep and drink lots of water. They say you should drink your weight in water. Before you get all freaked out on me, let me explain. If you weigh 130 pounds, you should drink 130 ounces of water a day. Sound like a lot? Yep, it is. But if you can drink 2 64 ounce sodas from AMPM, you can drink 128 ounces of water just the same. Just by drinking copious amonts of water, you can do so many wonders for your health; and if you find yourself peeing a lot? Just remember that it's the water carrying out allthose nasty things your body doesn't need. Hope this helps.

Can you get in a cab and get somewhere at all? Asking this because if you are sick enough you can go to an emergency room and they have to treat you whether you have insurance or not. I remember when I typed at the hospital here I was told 30 percent of people who go to the ER have no insurance but are treated or transferred to another facility for treatment. By law, you have to be looked at and/or treated by ER staff.

I think you should try something called active coal. Here we have that in farmacies and it is not a pill, but it works wonders! It is good for indigestion and stomach upsets of all kinds.Try doing a research on it, because it works best. There are also certain kinds of yogurt here that contain certain bacteria and it helps you digest foods better, so ask around!

I think what Psychic teacher is referring to is called activated charcoal here in the US. I've used it before and it does work wonders.
Its used in large amounts to absorb poisons/drugs when someone overdoses, but in small amounts it cleanses your body. Drink lots of water, too, it can never hurt.

Yes, that may be it, but under a different name. (Smile)

Try eating several smaller meals throughout the day instead of three larg ones.
